Well I gave it a crack.. apparently they do have my nice shiny new xbox sitting down at Harvey Normans but apparently according to the guy I talked to as soon as you plug it into the interwebs it reports back to Microsoft and Harvey Norman can be fined a lot of money for letting it out the door ahead of the release date.

So one more day it is.

Harvey Normans standard price is $448. I got the two games as I negotiated that before they dropped the price however they are one of the game packs that they often throw in as a sweetener so should not be hard to convince them to include them.

dick smith has a "hot deal" advertised for 13th/14th which appears to be the new console plus those two games for $479. what are the games worth on their own?

According to Mightyape $100 for Pure and $80 for Batman but as mentioned it will be the game pack which means they both come in the same case and cost the store near nothing.

I'll give Microsoft some kudos for actually making a really quiet unit, the new 360 isn't audible at all over the noise of anything you'd be playing unless the DVDROM is going full-tilt, and even that seems a lot quieter than the previous version, having a half-decent sized HDD finally that you can install a few games onto so the DVD doesn't need to be running the whole time is great.

The casing feels a bit "cheap", it pumps a LOT of heat out the side (don't store your games beside it!), and it's only very slightly smaller than the original unit (side-by-side and there's not much in it), the only real benefit is the massive reduction in noise and the bigger HDD, if you're buying a new one then that might be enough though :)

Oh, and the added wireless support which should've been there from day one is pretty handy too.

The July 14th flyer on their site only lists it with the Crackdown 2 game for $399. Maybe it's a regional thing?
