Decision made - found the Zyxel NSA310 1 bay NAS being sold off cheap. Old model. Ordered it for NZ$70 (no disk) from the UK, my folks there will forward it. All the normal little NAS stuff, very good reviews, and 'private cloud' access handled by Polkast app, also well reviewed. Am sure it will not be as good as a Synology long term but hopefully will meet my simple needs. And if it does not its cheap enough to sell on.
