Not sure exactly what forum to post this, as it relates to HT, Android and networking!

Anyway: the issue is I have a newly set up home theatre that includes a receiver (Onkyo TX-NR515) and TV (Panasonic 60ST50) that are both technically controllable by smartphone apps. I have downloaded both (in my case Android apps) and have no luck in getting either of them to pick up their respective "mothership".

I've read enough to see that the Onkyo app doesn't allow a manual IP address to be entered, so I've tried the app called Onkytroller; even with this I can't get anywhere. I note that this second app provides a port setting as well as IP address (default 60128), and I'm assuming this needs to be open on the router - is that correct? I have attempted to do this, but I'm not sure how I confirm if it is indeed open.

The Panasonic app speaks of having to do nothing special to allow it to work, yet I still have no luck here; I have checked the TV settings and it's set to work with the app.

While I'm not too worried about getting the Panasonic app working, using one of the apps controlling the receiver is important as we want to be able to use it to control the second zone (outside music - with this app and Squeezebox remote for Android everything should be controllable from on the deck).

So... can anyone offer advice as to what I may be doing wrong here? I'm sure it could be something to do with the router (I can see the receiver and TV on the list of devices in the router's info, and both devices can connect to the internet etc).

If it helps, the router's a Netgear DGND3700v2.

Many thanks for any assistance that can be provided!

Are you connected via wi-fi to the same network segment that the other devices are on? do you have your smartphone set to get it's ip address from the router (or a fixed ip address within the same range)?

The app won't work if you are not connected to your network.

Can't remember if I needed to change a setting on the amp to let the app control it or if it was on by default.

Yes, the router, receiver, tv and phone are in the same range of addresses, 192.168.1.x. All are currently set to automatically receive an address?

The weird thing is I've tried my wife's phone and both apps worked! And that was without mucking with any settings.

What could it be particular to my phone and its settings to stop them working on this phone but not hers? They are pretty much the same phone - Xperia Pro vesus Xperia Mini.
