andrewNZ: Are the apps installed on the phone and laptop?

I've applied the Sony updates and now an indicator displays that it wants to do something with the headphones, but nothing happens.

Living the dream, some more updates applied and admin rights to install device drivers and viola, NFC trigger switching between the Laptop and Mobile. Nice.

I really wish they would just make the headphones deal with more than one source and mix them together rather than having to deal with switching between devices.

Same for car kits.

andrewNZ:
khull: What I struggle is how NFC is going to add any added value.

While there might be advantages for initial pairing options, this has already been proven with existing technologies using Bluetooth LE (Apple TV has iBeacon). Furthermore, most headphones and speakers automatically reconnect when bluetooth is switched on, tapping is an unnecessary action.

Unless your headphones are paired with more than one device and you want to easily choose which to use.

Quite valid and interesting challenges that NFC could solve - funnily enough I don't run into that problem because I have multiple bluetooth headphones/headset (for gym, office, home) and don't actually have pairing conflicts

The switching mechanism in that scenario I've found to be somewhat hit and miss. I have a Bluetooth Blue Ant speaker that can pair with 8 devices, the challenge is, it picks the first it can find, which provides limited user control, i.e. disabling Bluetooth on the devices I don't want to connect. The Logitech H800 is good for Sky / Phone switch as they have a physical switch.
