I have installed a powerline internet extender with a wifi function in the receiver and it works well with my android tablet and phone, seamlessly extending my wifi coverage throughout the house.
My laptop running WIn 8 has problems though, it seems to keep dropping the internet connection and when I troubleshoot it resets the network adapter and reports it has fixed the problem and I get an internet connection back. However it drops off again, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes within seconds of being fixed.
Any ideas on how I can find out what is wrong and fix it?

Is the security setting the same for the laptop as earlier? These things are hard to troubleshoot but it is always good to try with no security to isolate that as a cause.

Also, update the wifi driver.

Security seeing is the same and Wi-Fi driver is up to date according to windows.
Do you think I should remove security on the remote device?

Is it running with the same SSID as the main network?

We had this issue when it was the same, the computer was flipping between the 2 devices and then having a hard time because there was some flakey bridging happening in the devices so things were not getting passed over the powerline bridge.

This is often a wifi driver problem and is a common problem on some adapters (for some reason they are always the one's installed in my wife's laptops). Here's an example for Intel Centrino.

So as linw said, update the driver.

Yes it has the same SSID so that I can move around the house with the portable devices and not have to log in to the different wifi networks. This works well with the phone and tablet.
Windows 8.1 tells me I have the latest driver for the network adapter, Qualcom Atheros AR5BWB222  :-(

Windows often says you have the latest driver when you haven't. It might be the latest windows driver but often the manufacturer has a later one.

Google the adapter and your laptop model and see what comes up. For example, try here:-
