Dear All,

I'm thinking of getting a master splitter installed to see if it improves my speed as I wont be UFB connected for several years.
Any thoughts / recommendations for an installer ?

Thanks for the replies.

If its a self install I'll have to do some investigating. The first step being going up into the roof where the phone lines enter - about 1 foot from where the main powerlines enter too...

Had a chat with a chorus van that was working one street over. Asked the fellow if he did them and would be interested in a quick cash job, but he said he only did the main cables not cables going into houses and suggested I ask my ISP. (Vodafone).

Thanks for the offer AndrewNZ - I live up the hill near a certain private hospital but not close enough unfortunately.. I'll keep it in mind once Ive clambered around in the roof - might look if space for ceiling installed rear speakers at the same time.

Download on ADLS2 is 11 Mb(B)/s which is pretty good considering its a 1920's house with an alarm installed. So no great urgency, it is just one of those jobs on list of things to do this year.

Not according to the vodafone address finder unfortunately. ADLS only.

According to Chorus I can get >20 Mbps with "right modem and plan"
but on the next line it says >10Mbps.

I always found the map a little frustrating to use in that the houses 100m around us are in a similar colour but no service available from vodafone or telecom but then they magically become available at a certain point in the telecom/vodofone address check despite being the same colour as those areas which cant get vsdl.

I realise there are many reasons why a particular house cant get a service, I just wish the data that the ISP have about inadequate line quality would be reflected in the chorus map so to avoid me getting excited about a service that is available on Chorus Map but not ISP.

?? Our exchange was ungraded to VDLS several years ago according to a previous version of the Chorus map which is probably why they didnt extend the fibre closer than 200m meters away when they stopped. Perhaps thought we already had fast enough ??

Thanks for your input though.

If chorus say 20 meg then it's a vdsl area.

This applies with every ISP that sells vdsl (apart from big pipe) so make sure you get the right plan for your needs rather than just going with Vodafone, who have the lowest vdsl data caps in the market I believe.

Are you absolutely certain you can't get UFB right now? I'm sure you must be but just checking - I thought this area was totally UFB deployed.

Yes you would think so, my patch of vsdl is surrounded by fibre areas on three of 4 sides which is a little frustrating as my house isn't vsdl according to Vodafone and Telecom web coverage maps.

Will give Vodafone support line a phone though.

Great I can get VDSL, ignore out website the operator said (!)
Chorus one is better (!)

50 minutes waiting to answer the phone bit disapointing though.
