A client that I helped install a synology ds414 NAS for his business is having connection issues.

After a period of time he loses connectivity via Windows Explorer with the DS414 and one of the ways he has access to the drive is via Synology Assistant/File Station. Once this happens, the only way he can reconnect the drive via explorer is to disconnect the drive and remap the drive from the Synology Assistant.

I am not sure on why the connection is failing on a regular basis. Its like it has an time-out disconnect setting. The computer is running Windows 7 but he leaves it up and running and logged on. He does not shutdown his pc unless he has to as the software/programs he uses take a long time to load upon a re-booting.

Has anyone come across a similar situation? He does not want to go through the process of re-establishing the mapping of the drive.

Dose the nas have its IP, assigned by dhcp from your dhcp server (router). Or is it a static ip, hard coded on the nas? Mine is a static route, I can not say that I have come accross your issue.

The nas is issued its ip by the networks router and as neither is turned off, they never change. May have to look at making it static and see that helps.

freitasm: I have one here and haven't seen this problem. I do have a DHCP reservation so the NAS always gets the same IP address.

Will / may have to look at doing the same and see if that helps. Am new to these so its a bit of a learning curve.
