This is a new post to bring together an issue that has been split between a couple of other threads.  Here's the summary:

1  I had a Vigor 120 paired with a (Netgear WNDR3700) working perfectly for the last 3 years
2  2 weeks ago, the internet drops out.  I connect laptop directly to the DrayTek and determine it is not connecting to my ISP (Vodafone) anymore
3  I try my old Vodafone supplied modem/router and it connects fine
4  Vodafone says the problem is the DrayTek so I spend an hour on the phone with Snappernet tech support.  They conclude that the modem must be damaged somehow
5  I want to move on, so I buy a brand new Vigor 120 - but it won't connect either.  I check all the configs and it still won't authenticate PPP with Vodafone.
6  I spend half an hour on phone with Vodafone tech support and they say both Drayteks must be faulty, since their modem/router does connect OK.

So, what are the odds 2 Vigor 120s in a row are faulty?  (One dying after 3 years and 1 out of the box)  Slim, right?  

The DSL syncs fine, but the PPP won't authenticate.  It doesn't even get to checking the ID/PWD, as putting wrong values in still makes no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas on this please, as I'm now in a world of pain.

Only thing I can think of is try them at a friends house who is signed up to a different ISP. Also is your ADSL served from a Chorus cabinet or from Vodafone gear in an exchange? "Vodafone Red Network"

Have you reviewed the log file for any clues?

I would recheck the PPP config re authentication type (PAP/CHAP/Auto, you might want to try PAP only as some ISPs are picky as which is tried first) and whether you have unintentionally specified a Service Name to connect to for PPPoE.
Most people run Vigor 120 paired with a (router) in PPPoA to PPPoE passthrough I am unsure as to whether that is your configuration.

I'm pretty sure we're in the red network - and we had been connecting fine for 3 years from the same address, so I'm stumped about what has changed.

Agree that I'll need to try the modem from elsewhere.  Snappernet tech support say they will run on their test bench if I drop it in.  So I guess that's the next step.

No I hadn't done that yet.  How/where do I see that?

I've gone over the config many times and it all seems correct.  Haven't tried PAP only, but will do.  However, the modem was connecting fine with "PAP or CHAP" for 3 years, so unless Vodafone changed something on their side, it shouldn't be a problem.

I had been running in pass through to a Netgear router, but I'm debugging with just the Draytek trying to connect.

Yeah would be interesting to see if it's working on a ISP using Chorus equipment. Vodafone could have changed something on their red network equipment... ISAM/linecard software or settings that the Draytek is having a problem with.

I don't know why that is.  It is definitely using PPPoA mode and is not in pass through for this test.

So, Snappernet have tested the two modems and they both work perfectly for them with their test DSLAM.  

There is something that has changed in the Vodafone network that has stopped the Draytek modems authenticating - but doesn't stop the Vodafone supplied modem/routers working fine.  

So now Vodafone say there is nothing wrong with their network and Snappernet say there is nothing wrong with the modems - and I'm left in the middle with two Vigor 120s (one brand new) that won't connect.

Can you try them on another Vodafone line somewhere ? It could just be some dodgy firmware/setup at your exchange/cabinet...... 

If they work on another Vodafone line elsewhere, at least you can pass that onto V/fone and maybe get Chorus to check into it....
