So i have the stock standard adsl+2 modem that vodafone provides.I a networking noob so any ideas on how to change nat type from strict to open?its not letting me play multiplayer games now

What is the game you are playing?

Most games and domestic routers these days support uPNP, and as long as you have that turned on in the game and the router it should work.

The game is the crew. It says in game my nat is strict and to enable upnp in my router which i assume is built into the hg556a?
