Hi

Our Huawei HG659 router is now doing weird things, but when I checked the network we have up to 18 devices trying to connect to it so maybe it's not doing too bad.  I've read in a previous thread that the Unifi is recommended as it plugs straight in.  I looked at the PB Tech website and there's a number of Unifi's.  Can someone confirm if this is the one I need?

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NETUBI1040&name=Ubiquiti-UAP-LR-UniFi-802.11bgn-2.4GHz-300Mbps-500

And I can't see how many devices it will support so if anyone can confirm that for me too I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks cool

I've had 4 huaweis so far, from the generous telco.
Each of them did weird things out of the box and a factory reset fixes each of them.
No idea why.

Involuntary autocorrect in operation on mobile device. Apologies in advance.

18 devices will be sweet as on a UAP.

Don't really see the point though now, you are better to grab the new UAP-AC-LITE which will be good as gold in a home enviroment.

Dual band. AC wireless etc.

The original UAP is rather old now!

Ive taken most of my unifi's down with cleaning up the server closet and moving the propriatory power injectors out of the way. Am waiting on the new AC PRO to be available to replace them with since that takes proper power over ethernet.

Anyway, now have about 45 devices hitting the one inside - that ranges from old junk mobile phones that I have stuff on still, chromecasts, heaps of wemo and other wifi switches and limitless LED bridges etc, portable wifi HDDs that are just sitting on charge connected to the lan and stuff, IP cameras.

Its fine. They use these in schools with rooms full of kids as well. Its slow as anything with all that crap connected but its not crashing, not failing to pass traffic for some device and needing reboots or anything bad.

Check first if the "weird things" that are occurring are just Wifi related. Or to do with the non wifi functions of the router. If you have the Vodafone version of the HG659 see if it has the latest firmware. Also some versions you can load the Spark firmware onto it. Have a look at the Vodafone forum on GZ.

Thanks guys.  I've done the firmware upgrade and will see if that sorts out the weird issues that were happening.

Basically I was losing things off the network - one day the printer would connect and the next day it wouldn't.  One day the security cameras were fine then the next day they weren't.  I was starting to lose my mind laughing  Hopefully this works.

PS I also had issues with the Admin password not working and getting locked out, but I found the VF forum post about this and kept trying until it finally worked with the @serial no - phew!  As usual it finally worked about 5 secs before I was going to chuck it out the window!

The firmware update fixed my WiFi issues for this particular site that some of the smartphones were having. Thanks again johnr!
