I am starting to explore kodi on my fire tv but have read that I should use a VPN. I have set up unodns before but VPN seems a bit more complicated. I am on Vodafone cable with a Technicolor tc7210 modem router and use unotelly. Any suggestions most appreciated. Vodafone customer service said to ask unotelly, unotelly have said to ask vodafone or read the modem manual which I attempted to do.

I looked up best kodi add-ons and builds and on these sites they advise to use a VPN so I think this is to keep my connection secure.

You only really need a VPN for secure connections when outside of your home. At home most VPNs (in our New Zealand context) are used to get around geo-restrictions (when some service is only available outside NZ, e.g. Hulu). If your add-ons work at the moment then you don't need a VPN. If there's an add-on that only work in one region or another then you would probably just get around this with a DNS unblocker service.

Without knowing specifics (add-on, service, etc) I would say straight away you don't need a VPN.

Oh hope I don't need one. Have added most these ones including exodus http://www.htpcbeginner.com/best-kodi-addons-2016/
Have been watching Hulu and US Netflix until recently. Thanks for the advice :)

Well, the "Pirated Content" warning says it all. Using anything that comes with that kind of warning also means it could possibly carry undesirable stuff in it - I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, you can't install a VPN on your Fire TV - you would have to do it on your router (if it supports it) which could affect your network performance (if your router only allows a single connection so all computers in the network go through the VPN).

Overall I'd say uninstall any add-on you really don't use. Then see if what you use still works.

Ok thanks, think you've steered me away from the dodgy add-ons :). Might just stick with Hulu and maybe try out amazon prime. No VPN issues to deal with too.

Is Exodus a dodgy add-on to Kodi? It seems to be able to screen a lot of content, and I'm wondering how legal it is?

If you're trying to avoid dodgy add-ons, I would *definitely* avoid Hulu.

How is Hulu dodgy? Hulu is a well known, recognised, streaming service, at the same level as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.

Exodus is perfectly fine however its not legal (streaming services are not monitored in nz so you should be fine)
