Unlikley.

Perhaps just set a favorite/bookmark in your browser for the PC IP and be done with it?

You've stumbled into a fairly complex, but very important problem.

It's worth investigating your time learning it, because the basics are always the same in any TPC/IP environment (which is pretty much all systems today)

I could write several pages discussing "name resolution" and DNS here, but I'd strongly suggest Googling the following.

DNS DHCP HOSTS basics

I found this good page talking about it

Can't see how this helps as you can't edit a hosts file on an iPad.

On HG659 you can set a Device Name at: Home Network > LAN Interface > LAN Interface Settings (may be similar on HG659b).

Default is: "mediarouter" which will allow you to access your router at http://mediarouter.home provided your device is using DHCP and "Gateway acts as the DNS proxy" is enabled on the router.

Sorry misread above that you were trying to access your router via a host name but it appears you're trying to access your PC.

Generally you should be able to use the host name ("Computer Name") of the PC i.e. http://windowspc-01

Change your computer name here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/change-your-computer-name-in-windows-vista/
