Hi

I have put the spark HG630b in bridge mode and connected it to a Sophos Home Edition UTM but i cant get it to work

PPPOE logs "Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery" but HG630B DSL lights up

And the interface state/link is reported down although cable is properly connected with status lights blinking on the NIC.

WAN Interface Config:-

Type: DSL (PPPOE)
HW: eth0
VDSL: Tick/Untick made no difference
IPv4 default gw: unticked
username: user@xtrabb.co.nz
password: password
MTU: 1492
default route metric: 20
Asymteric: unticked
multilink: unticked

Help.

Is the PPPoE service name field blank on the Sophos?

I assume the HG630b's layer 2 interface is still configured as per defaults to tag the packets.

What sort of DSL connection is this? ADSL or VDSL?

i see you have a spark connection there, I'm happy to check logs on this side to see if we are seeing authentication attempts if you DM me a line number.

have you tried rebooting the firewall? sounds dumb i know but sometimes when my firewall plays up all it needs is a reboot,  are you able to post a screen shot of your interface settings for the UTM? have you tried just using the modem as a modem disabling all the other features and forwarding all traffic to the UTM? also what is the connection adsl or vdsl? have you tried just a adsl or vdsl modem on its own? i did a bit of googling and sparks website said that they dont support it but theres probably a way around it

depending on how the bonding is set, you may need to tag the packets on outgress on your sohpos.

are you able to post a screenshot of the config for the sophos end? ususally the service name would be what you name the interface on the sophos box, ie WAN or Internet have you ticked the vdsl box? are you on a static ip? have you selected the correct hardware for the interface?

i just re read your first post and noticed that you have default ipv4 gateway unticked, any reason why? this must be ticked to allow out going connections on that interface also have you tried vlan tagging in the advanced settings, im not to sure if spark does it on their vdsl but possably worth a try, as  it mentions it in this link also looks like it has another password that you could try too.

a snippett of your config like the one above would possably help

i actually had much the same issue tonight, went as far as full router reboots before looking at my Esxi node to see oh... its not detecting a nic...

Wish i had of figured that before troubleshooting at a higher level!
