Ok so i know n00b mistakes were made as i post this but....

Recently got HG659b modem in prep for fibre install, while i managed to change the config file to change the ip's for guest network (which i'll never use) as my network uses 192.168.2.* (as the vpn i connect to uses 192.168.1.* and since the guest network uses that, managed to sort that out....and the i prob should have left it at that but you know once you start tinkering with things and since it has no real option (at least by defualt) to add accounts to manage the modem

Started to look into that, thought id done it correctly uploaded it to modem and since then has kind of messed stuff up tried hard reset, to no avail then found out about rescue mode for firmware

got ahold of the correct firmware for it just now and seems to have flashed properly but i feel i may have made things worse and now it doesn't seem to have done anything...am i missing a step(s) after it successfully flashes? network still appears as unplugged so obviously something is wrong (i kept the original conf file on hand), set to dhcp and again no avail?

thanks

Any set instructions on full device reset? as i only am aware of the pressing reset and then switch it on to enter rescue mode? or was that it?

power device on, hold in reset button for about 10 seconds, all lights will light up.

Alternatively connect up modem and DM me a few details and i'll see if it doesn't wanna do as i tell it to.

So yeah general consensus is, modem done fudged itself, surprised how easy it was to brick as i dont think its actually flashing properly via rescue mode or at least through the steps ive been following from another geekzone thread. and tftp isnt really an option as ive even tried that on the off chance, not that i was expecting it to work...

Rather annoyed but thats what happens when you edit a conf file that really isn't meant to be edited! (though i was aware that it shouldn't be done that way but still did!)

So  yay...just what i need to worry about sorting out in the new year when i have time next week....

Did the reset not work?

If you get back to factory settings, i.e. Spark pre configured settings, you will have service. That is your base point.  If you them change settings, and it goes AWOL, what you did was wrong, factory reset and try again.

So, i accidentally recreated this while trying to Test something with the limits..

Can confirm, Restore mode only loads firmware doesnt factory reset.

ended up shooting home, grabbing trusty Fritzbox and switching settings on on that; this week i'll dig into a "Unbricking" plan....

on the upside, wifi over masses of devices is better here :)

That or jtag it, regardless; my bad....

Would be good for a better un bricking guide, either that or what i have been reading is working and im just missing a few steps afterwards

https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=195711 is where ive been following and those steps work like the LAN  1-4 lights up when "done" but it still just doesn't seem to fix it

The one thing i hate is not being able to see on screen like through CLI where its screwing up (which could be nicer than assuming its not working!)
