Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone could help with the following error in my logs:

dnsmasq-dhcp[9432]: not giving name Apple-TV4 to the DHCP lease of because the name exists in /etc/hosts.dnsmasq with address

It's happening with another wireless device as well.

I've manually assigned the ATV4 the IP of in the router by turning on the MAC and IP address binding but still get this error.

I've only noticed it in the last few updates with Merlin but for some reason can't post on the SNB forums at present.

I did change the device from being wired cat6 to go wireless via 5GHz as it's faster for this device so not sure if something went wrong after that switch or if it was there previous to that.

The message is a bit misleading (it has nothing to do with hosts.dnsmasq) but it's harmless. You need to wait until dynamic lease lease expires and gets removed from leases file. When ATV4 didn't have a static lease allocated and requested a lease dnsmasq randomly allocated, during DHCP exchange ATV4 provided its hostname, so dnsmasq recorded lease+hostname into leases file. Something like this:

<expiry timestamp> XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX Apple-TV4 *

Now dnsmasq tries to add a new record with the same hostname and complains:

<expiry timestamp> XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX Apple-TV4 *

dnsmasq will issue to ATV4 anyway, but if you try to resolve "Apple-TV4" via nslookup it will return
