Hi, not sure if I can set up remote desktop with my setup.

I want to be able to access my home PC running XP home edition (can  install pro if needed) from work or anywhere else.

I have a belkin n1 wireless router connected to a dlink modem. I am not sure if the Belkin n1 is capable of setting up one computer to be accessed and what settings I need to change to enable remote desktop.

Any advise on what to do or where to look would be appreciated.

Cheers guys

For starters you will need XP Pro, since Hom edition can only connect, not host a remote desktop session. I'm not sure about the modem config, but you will need to do port forwarding to your desktop on port 3389 (thats the Remote Desktop Port)
You can get help with setting up your modem/router here: http://portforward.com/
To set up remote desktop on your machine right click on the my computer icon, select the remote tab and then tick the box Enable Remote Desktop on this Computer.
Hope this helps :)

Hey dakie,

You might like to have a look at Hamachi, you can achieve the same result with a lot less hassle. Good set up guide here also.

Or from the same company as Hamachi, LogMeIn Free is pretty good

Doesn't use MS RDP, it does it all itself, web browser based.
