Hi, do you have just the one Google WiFi or are there multiple, if its just the one, then as Mauricio says put the Google WiFi into bridge mode and use the Orcon router as the only router and source of your LAN subnet.

Hi, so who is your RSP/ISP

Orcon.

You should consider talking to Orcon to see if Wi-Fi Pro could be used - perhaps put the router behind the new Google Nest then instead of being in front of it?

I will check with Orcon although their install instructions state not to connect the wifi pro units directly into the ONT so I might have the same situation. This must be fairly common as plenty of people will have a similar setup to what I have so I might go back to Orcon and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi, so if you have multple then its best you dont bridge the GoogleWiFi, instead use the switch as mentioned to drop the vlan for you, PM me if you want instructions on how to do that. As for getting the VOIP service going, you should be able to drop the vlan setting in the Orcon router and then connected its WAN to the LAN side of the Google WiFi and it should connect, that said I have not tried it.

I might ‘negotiate’ with my wife to see if we actually need a landline, I haven’t used it for more than six months and I can’t recall the last time she did either, that would probably make things a lot easier.

Exactly, put the $10 or so you save on to more mobile minutes on you plan, makes way more sense.

Decision made, landline is going. Wifi pro to be connected direct to the ONT, should simplify things a bit.

Just now someone posted that their years old Gen 1 device is now updated and connected to VLAN networks - worth asking about it.

Just a quick update, new nest units arrived today. I am now connected direct to the ONT, the old router no longer required.

It was a little bit frustrating setting up the 2nd nest unit as for some reason trying to do it from my iPhone wouldn’t work, I just kept going around in circles. Using my wife’s iPhone I got it sorted and then added the older 1st gen google wifi access points as well.

Speed is fairly good, Speedtest shows about 570Mbps to my phone, that is with four other devices running as well in the same room including Google TV streaming the news.Definitely quicker than using the 1st gen units. Real world experience probably won’t differ much though.

Now that the router location has changed I need to run a return feed back to my cabinet in the garage. I do have a return Cat 6 cable already pre-wired but I need to convince my daughter to climb on top of the pantry to plug it in as it’s not overly accessible, unless you are quite slim anyway.

I assume I won’t be able to just run another data cable from the ONT, it will have to come back from the Nest router?
