So I can do 100Mb potentially over this?

... Sign me up!  I will try to map out the topology of the phone wiring.  There is also a utility room/cupboard thing outside which I don't yet have a key to.  I know it has the gas cylinder and power and water meters but I'm guessing the electrical services come in via there as well.  I'd like to make sure that the phone line isn't connected to the exchange still before I start connecting things to it.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi, yep 100Mb/s sure can, wire the blue pair to the green circuit and the orange pair to the orange circuit (using 567A wiring) and away you go, but obviously you need to work out where each segment goes to.

Normally one would use a toner set to work that out, but a simple multimeter would do the job, just a bit slower to work out. Its reasonable to assume the Bed2 to Lounge will go via one of the other rooms or via a central point, you need to discover the layout.

What town/city are you in, someone else on GZ with skills may be nearby.

Thanks for the suggestions.  For the moment I've set up the second FritxBox as a mesh repeater (wireless backhaul) and cable connected the TV and Skybox to it.  Enough bandwidth to stream without freezes.  I'm going to check out the phone wiring topology.

Just an update.  I called 2Deg over a separate matter (getting the VoIP line going) and they sent me out a new router (7530) as they seemed to think the 7490 I had wouldn't cut it for VoIP.

I installed the 7530 at the ONT as a mesh master, used the 7490 as a mesh repeater in the study (directly across the hall connected with wireless to the master).  Two PC's in the study then have wired connections to the repeater.  Another 7490 as a wireless-connected repeater by the TV, with the TV and Sky box wired connection to that 7490.

The end result is very good - the study in particular.

I don't know how reliable this speed measurement is, and there probably aren't many websites that will keep a 500/500 pipe full anyway, but it's looking pretty good.  Speeds aren't as good at the TV but are still in the 50-100 Mb range.  I'll continue to investigate wired backhaul over the phone wiring, but the need isn't as pressing now, and the phone wiring might be needed for (analog) phone extensions when I get VoIP going anyway.
