I've written up a bit of a guide on installing network cabling in homes, drawn largely from advice posted by others here on geekzone, and my own experiences working on homes.

It doesn't include any photos or diagrams at this stage, but I may add these in later.

I've made it available through issuu.com using the link below - hopefully useful for someone!

I'm just about to undertake some work to extend my network at home, so was a useful read.

Thank you for putting together and sharing!

I've never used issuu.com before - there is no way to get a better view other than the double page layout? Finding that very hard to read on screen.

Sorry, I don't think there's anything much better than the double page, full screen view.

I've uploaded a new version of the guide with a few basic diagrams added - here are a couple of examples:

If installing cabling for security cameras, I was recommended on here to install two cables to each location , one for redundancy.

I can't enable download on issuu.com without paying a monthly subscription, but have uploaded it to GitHub, and you should be able to download the PDF from there: https://github.com/froob77/networkcabling

This document deserved a Network 101 for NZ home medal.

It is a fantastic piece of work and even better, you shared it for free. Thank you very much.

I am a noob, can I ask how does the redundancy port works?

If one breaks/fails, there is already another cable there to use.
