Is Clipsal essentially the PDL brand name in Australia?

Kinda, they both exist in AUS, with the Iconic series its PDL here, and Clipsal in AUS though.

Same product, with both brands stamped on the units, light switch beside me, and outlet behind for example.

mclean:

Just to reiterate, a flush box in New Zealand are a standard item and will generally fit any New Zealand outlets and switches.

Thank you, I wondered this, so good to know for sure.

nickb800:

I've never had a problem with mounting screw spacing - seems to be pretty standard. I mounted my pdl iconic plates on a mix of PDL full boxes, Deta full boxes and Deta C-clip brackets. Bunnings has Deta 10-packs which is handy

Perfect, thank you!

One odd man out is the Deta wide spaced double that has a longer wall & surface box.

The nice thing with the Iconic system is you can actually build your own mechs, with the correct dimensions, and clip them into a factory grid gang with factory cover, to give a very professional look.

E.g. something like this... https://www.bmdesigns.com.au/shop/bmd-iconic-button/

I have used these buttons throughout my new build, along with a few PIRS (https://www.bmdesigns.com.au/shop/bmd-iconic-pir/) and rotary encoders (https://www.bmdesigns.com.au/shop/rotary-encode/).

They all just clip into an Iconic grid gang and look very professional. I then have them wired up to my automation system via CAT6 cables.

Can't you do that with the 600 series?

What I really really want is

1 x push button stateless on/off/hold for dim that is Wifi Controllable. The added complication is that there is a switch to control those lights on both the inside and outside of the wall.

13 x push button stateless on/off (no Wifi or dim required).

I'm not sure to be honest. Try the various 3D print sharing sites to see if anyone has uploaded some designs.

networkn: @mclean Would you mind explaining this more? Do you have specific examples of the SKU's which are Zigbee? I am looking for a couple of push button stateless wifi enabled dimmer integrated light switches and not really having much luck. Maybe this could resolve that issue for me.

If you search for "wiser' on the Schneider Electric website there's a list there. We use the PDL356PB10MBTW switch for lighting circuits (where the lights are wired through the switch), and the PDL356PB2MBTZ switch to control smart lamps on other circuits (ie table lamp groups supplied through socket outlets, and using Philips Hue lamps). Both connect seamlessly to Home Assistant through an HA SkyConnect Zigbee controller, and using the Home Assistant ZHA integration.

But these aren't dimmer switches. I haven't tried the Iconic smart dimmers - they're also Zigbee so there's a fair chance they'll work.  I don't quite like the Iconic electronic dimmers - they use a single pushbutton to dim up and down on alternate long presses, which is OK but not as pleasing as separate up and down buttons.

If you want state-less pushbuttons in an Iconic skin, then you could use ordinary push-button mechs with a smart dimmer module behind. The choice of module will depend on what protocol/device you want use to connect to it. The Iconic devices don't do wifi. Maybe something like a Shelly Dimmer2 - it's wifi and can connect to all sorts of things (including Home Assistant).

I'm using a PDL Pro 3 position momentary switch with Shelly dimmers. They work in the Iconic plates but are a slightly different finish, shiny white instead of Matt white.

Perfect!  Never knew that even existed, let alone fit in an Iconic grid.

Please post here if you find anything. I'll probably end up designing something myself at some point as I loathe the Iconic range.

Deta now sell switches and GPOs that look the same as the PDL 600 series, but they don't sell blank plates (I've asked them to consider this), nor do they have any modules available. The internals of the switches/GPOs are also different and I'm unsure of the quality, so I'm only using the GPOs in places like data cabinets where plugs won't be inserted/removed constantly.

PDL seems to be in the process of abandoning the 600 series. I wanted a buzzer module, only to find it's now unavailable.

No, but I am happy to. I just need to make sure it's all going to work the way I want, and find a sparky who knows about then. I've tried our usual and another recommended one and both didn't want any part of it.
