nzkc: Can you confirm that the download speeds you are seeing are from tests where: The router is plugged directly into the ONT You use a device connected via a LAN to that router directly Wifi is not involved at all (no mesh) with the speedtests
Yes to all.
You do keep bringing up wifi speeds which is why Im (re)asking the above. As others have correctly pointed out you get all kinds of interference with wifi and you're extremely unlikely to get 900Mbps over it. Especially with a mesh system.
Apologies for any confusion. Wifi speed I've tested read and writing to and from a usb drive connected to the primary router from a PC connected to lan on the mesh node on our 2nd floor. That manages ~650Mbps with 1.5GB file.

Assuming you are testing over a wired lan connection with the router directly connected to the ONT make sure all traffic management settings in the ASUS router are turned off. See this for a list of them: https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ax3000/techspec/. You said you disabled QoS and the AI thing...but there are a couple of others. I also remember there being some kind of gaming setting - claimed to improve throughput...but disable that too. It might be ensuring there's some "headroom" in speeds so pings are not adversely affected.  I used to have an A
AI protection... turned off. Gaming mode is on Some Tuf, ROG and a few ax 5600 and ax6000 routers, not this one (just the QoS gaming option)

Switching ISPs isn't going to help you with the ASUS speeds.
I had my doubts too, but surely there are others with ASUS routers without this bottleneck and IPv6 issue.
A third option you have, opposed to the two above, is you make the Asus routers APs only and plug those into the Orbi (having disabled wifi on the Orbis). Then you should get your full 900Mbps speed + your best wifi option (as you have stated).
I'm considering this, I already have a fritzbox sitting next to it with all its radios off save for the dect as I use that as base for cordless ip phone. Not super keen to have 3 routers clustered around the ONT. I have a plan this weekend to factory reset the node RT-ax3000 and set that up from scratch as the primary router. I that doesn't work, I'll try the fritzbox as the router and the 2 asus as wifi mesh in ap mode. I'll post the outcomes for future prosperity  ...or photos of the Asus routers shattered and scattered across my driveway. Hopefully, it won't come to that.

We are in Christchurch and recently got transferred from MyRepublic to 2Degrees.

We have no speed issues with an ASUS RT-AX3000 and an RP-AX56 hardwired as a nest system to cover our whole house.

Speed tests done directly through the router web page are always above 850/500. Often above 900/500.

Wireless speeds are usually above 700/400, depending on the device.

Your firmware seems to be an older version, mine is 3.0.0.4.388.22525.

Well, I took the rtax3000 I used as a node and set it up as the primary on Friday. It worked optimally all the way through. I kept testing as I added devices and altered settings, but nothing upset it. Not even when I added the other rtax3000 as the node.

2 days later and it's going strong.

Still no IPv6 though. Not important at this point.

A big thanks to those who tried to help troubleshoot. We won't know the exact cause of the original problem but its all fixed now.

Good spotting on the fw. The newly set up configuration has the fame firware version you noted.

The earlier set up claimed to be up to date.

The rxat3000 that's now my primary has a 4 core processor. The other has the expected 3 core. From what I can tell these originally came out with a Broadcom 1.5Ghz tricore CPUs but later ones came out with 1.7Ghz quad cores, same as in the gsax3000

Ram is freed up a bit too. Was up around 90%, now sits consistently at 69 ...which is nice.
