hi im new to this so go slow!

we bought a new laptop and a new belkin n type wireless router/modem (fsd8636 4a)
the lap top runs vista. the network is controled by the laptop as it was the first to be installed.

we also have a desktop running xp hardwired to the belkin.

both connect, network and browse the web fine.

i decided to portfoward as i download torrents and heard that it was faster, so i followed the instructions on portforward. com, set up static addreses on both machines Different to each other) and put them into the virtual server with the respective ports.

all instuctions to the letter. both machines still connect and run fine, except i cannot seem to get any torrent connection. ie the browser works but torrents will not start.

i had previoulsy used bitlord but torrents will not start. si  i installed bittorrent and the the same result.

i have tested the ports using the portforwarding tool. and both ports 2020 & 2010 are open. the statics are set (i checked in the sysconfig) and the preferences are set in both bitlord and bittorrent as instructed by portforward.com

any ideas? please help?

Have you made sure that you are not running the windows firewall, any third party firewalls, or anti-vrus software?
I am not saying you should never use them, but its a good way to test whats wrong.

you could try DMZ just to see if the torrent works and i would also try uTorrent as a client, easiest to use and the most popular

Common sense is not as common as you think.
