Will it work in NZ ?

A mate bought one over from Australia when he moved and it doesn't seem to like NZ ?

The phone jack is different and plugging it into his dedicated internet phone line kills his phone.

:(

It may not work, it would depend on whether or not it is telepermitted for NZ. There will be a sticker on the device, or packaging, stating whether or not it has been telepermited for NZ.
Also, the model number may give you an indication.

What model is it?

Is it an ADSL modem or just a router? You are trying to plug the phoneline into an RJ11 ADSL jack on the back of the device and not a RJ45 WAN port?

Only reason I'm asking is because you won't be the first or last to try this and it wil take out the phoneline while it's plugged in.

The box itself will work, yes.
I've taken a NZ DSL Router to Australia and it's working there to this day with no problems.

Does it have a permit? NFI!

Thanks for the quick replies.

It's model DIR-300.

No Telepermit sticker.

ADSL modem and router.

The internet jack ADSL jack is different to NZ routers, on this model it's the same size as a LAN jack.

He says he's off to Telecom if he can't get this to work.

LOL

That is NOT a modem router. It is a router only, hence why the WAN port looks like a LAN jack, thats because it is.

You need to buy an ADSL modem.

This isn't a modem - it's only a router and won't work by itself.

So he's on a Telecom ADSL connection or different ISP?

If he's on a standard residential (pppoa) ADSL connection really all he needs is a basic $60 ADSL modem that can be half bridge'd to the router.

Yes, on Xtra.

Gave him my old ADSL modem and all is up and running.

Much appreciated.

Did you set it up in half bridge, otherwise it's likely he will have problems with double NAT that affect bit torrent and gaming.
