I am new to the wireless world and would appreciate any help I can get. I will be getting cable internet. The room I plan to put my computer in has only one cable outlet which will be for my television. My desktop will be across the room and the cable company cannot run cable to this side of the room (rearranging furniture won't work). My question is can I get a cable splitter using one side for my television and the other for a wireless router. Now do I hook up the cable modem to the router and then install a wireless card in my desktop? Will this complete the connection? Is there anything else I would need. Also, this will be the only computer hooked up the wireless internet connection. Please help. Thanks

Presuming that your having your cable company install your cable broadband service then they will install the appropriate splitter and cable modem. All you would need to do then is either run a long 10BaseT cable from the cable modem to your desktop (which presumabley has a 10BaseT function built-in) or purchase and install a wireless router at the cable modem location and a wireless card in your desktop. Your cable ISP may also be in a position both sell you and install an appropriate wireless router.
