Just got my Broadband via a Telecom Speedtouch ST536.  I also have a Buffallo WHR-HP-G54 from the UK. flashed with DD-WRT (although I don't really understand it's full capability, but can follow instructions!)

Can somebody cofirm that I can't use them together as the ST is PPoA?

I had been warned this might be the case before, one solution was a modem in half bridge mode.  WIll I notice any impact on speed? What other impications are there for this solution?

Hi, I dont think the ST's firmware will support half-bridge, none I have seen so far have, so that leaves you with the only option of using the router in the ST and simply using the Buffallo as a layer2 AP.

As for speed, you are assuming that the ST's NAT router is better or worse than the Buffallo's on WRT. considering we a talking about a 24Mb/s max ADSL2+ connection then I doubt it will be an issue.

Yeah you may have to setup the Buffalo as just a "dumb" switch and AP ie: disable dhcp, nat and give it a static ip address in the range given out by the Thomson.

If you aren't really using the features in tomato then it's not much of a loss.

search through trade me for RTA1320, DSE XH9949 or Linksys AM300. These are half bridge modems. Won an auction for DSE XH9949 brand new for $5 couple of days ago. Trade me itself was selling few modems they acquired from a company which they recently bought out.

Do whatever you want to do man.
