OLD PROBLEM RESOLVED
I HAVE A NEW PROBLEM NOW

its a wired rj45 connection to the modem and it only happens on this computer as other computers are working fine.

A speedtest much lower than your sync speed would probably indicate congestion on the backhaul network from the exchange to the ISP or congestion in Vodafone's network on the route to the Auckland speedtest server (Auckland speedtest server is hosted by Xnet).

Try some other speed tests and downloads to double check speeds:

http://zeus.jetstream.co.nz/
http://speedtest.slingshot.co.nz/
http://www.consumerspeedtest.org.nz/

Also remember residential internet is a shared network best effort service with no gaurantee of minimum performance.  There is x backhaul and isp bandwidth available and y users at peak time it's fairly likely you will not achieve your full sync speed (think motorway in rush hour) especially on international downloads.

However, for a local download/speedtest your 1Mbit result vs your 6Mbit sync speed is fairly crap.

when i use my hwawei modem (FREE one from vodafone) i get around 12-15 sync speeds and around 1-1.8mbps on rapidshare

Your sync rate seems low have you set you new modem to connect as ADSL2+ looks like your sync speed is synch as ADSL1

uhm i tried it on a dif computer and even thou the sync speeds were the same i got 8.0mbps on speed tests and around 1-1.3mbps with IDM

So you only have issues with this one computer and you have other computers at the same location that are completely fine?

What OS is it running? What SP? Latest drivers for the NIC? Memory and CPU all okay? Checked Peformance stats?

Any errors reported on the NIC in eventvwr (assuming windows)

Yes that would help.... Theres always a chance that problems are on the local side of the connection. However local speedtests go through APE, which is a reasonably big switch by NZ standards but might also be congested oneday. Nationwide speeds can vary by the time of day quite a lot, although should be faster than international.




Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^
