Does anyone know of a Bluetooth app that allows auto-locking of a WinMobile PDA when it leaves the proximity of another Bluetooth device (such as a proximity badge)?

I work in a Medical environment, and the Docs want to start using transcription dictation onto PDAs, but don't want the inconvienience of logging in and out all the time.  We have to secure them somehow, tho, as we are responsible for patient privacy.

Thanks,

Boa1969

Welcome to Geekzone... I haven't heard of an application to lock the Pocket PC, but the other way around: using a Pocket PC ActiveSync over Bluetooth to lock/unlock a PC.

You can configure the Pocket PC to use a PIN and lock the device after a few minutes. I understand it is not as convenient as an automatic unlock based on something you have on you (like a badge), but it's a security measure nonetheless.

If you are really into security, have a look in some of the Credant Mobile Guardian reviews we had here before (here and here), or this article about establishing security policies on a Pocket PC.

The author of these articles (Darryl Burling) is a developer evangelist at Microsoft New Zealand, and he used to be a Microsoft MVP Mobile Devices, like myself.
