Hi guys.  hope you can help me with my connection which  frequently drops  intermittently every so often between 3 to 15 or more mins.   I'm using a Belkin Model: F5D7230-4 54g Wireless Router with a BELKIN: 802.11g Wireless Notebook Network Card.  I have WPA-PSK security enabled and using a Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2006.  I'm on TCL cable, laptop on XP Pro SP2.

I would normally "right click" my wireless network icon and click 'Repair' but the frequent drops are just driving me nuts.  I note that it's not a 'distance' issue as I have tried working with the router right beside my laptop and would still lose connectivity.

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Well you have my exact same issue!!

I have a Belkin wireless adsl router (FD7630 4A) and card and it happens to me all the time. Both on Win XP and Vista. Security doesnt seem to make a difference.

I have called Belkin so may times and they try blaming my ISP for it, but considering it doesnt drop the internet connection its not an ISP issue.

I think it could be the wifi card thats a problem.

I have the same Belkin router model, a TelstraClear cable-modem connection, but not the Belkin cards. My laptop (a Toshiba Tablet PC with Intel Centrino chipset) and Pocket PCs all connect ok. Actually my AP is up 24/7 for months.

You may be right with the card as I have another Belkin USB wireless adapter hooked up with my PC and I don't experience these drops. Yeah I will take off the card and will try using the USB adapter with my laptop for a week run and see how it goes.

Hi.  I am not quite sure if it has fixed the problem but what I did was to perform a windows update.  Control panel-->Add Remove Programs-->Add New Programs-->Windows Update--->Express.  Windows did its thing in checking for updates for my computer.  After the downloads and restarting my computer, I noticed that for about two straight hours now, I have not experienced any connection drops.  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed but it has improved heaps.  Anyways, if the problem comes back (hope not!) I still have the option to try on my USB wireless adapter and/or have the network card replaced.  Many thanks to all who has given their time in checking this post and for your much appreciated suggestions.  Cheers.

Hi.  It's been a week since my last post and just to give you guys an update on the Belkin hardware... Well my problem of intermittent dropouts were once again experienced over the weekend.  No thanks to the 7/24 Belkin support as you really don't get any on weekends and after around 7pmish during weekdays.  I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software both automatically and manually but still to no avail.

Finally have it replaced today over at Harvey. Just to be sure this time, I have it installed by the techguy in Harvey.  He tried the Belkin card at first but after about 3 tries (with the install CD, auto install, manual install, downloaded drivers), he thought we had enough and got a new sealed box of Netgear WG511v2 PC card.  Lo and behold in just a couple of minutes, I was able to have my Netgear card installed and connection established as anticipated.

So all you fellow geeks, be informed, Belkin is first when it comes to warranty, as (i think) its the only brand offering a lifetime warranty.  Apart from that, I have no other comments to make specifically on its wireless network card and 7/24 tech support.
