Hi folks,

Long time lurker, 1st time poster...
I was just wondering if there was any wise heads out there that might be able to answer a few questions for a curious mind...
I was wondering if there was any reason why my VF issue Echolife HG556a has the internet facing port 8081 open or could this simply be a case of mis-configuration on my part i.e. operator error?!

Things that I think maybe relevant to help anyone in answering this question:
-The router is running the lastest firmware from the VF site (V100R001C12B032SP01.bin)
-I have a VF Sure-signal (BSR FEMTO V1.2) {I'm thinking this maybe the most likely candidate here?}
-Naked Broadband Ultimate connection
-I have double checked port forwarding/mapping is not enabled

I stumbled on to this while running an Nmap scan on my home IP from work (yip I was pretty bored...) and this showed port 8081 as open.
Note - an internal scan from 192.168.1.x does NOT show this as open.

The results of the scan from an external ip were: (just partial results listed to show the difference between open/closed/filtered ports)
21/tcp filtered ftp
22/tcp closed ssh
23/tcp filtered telnet
25/tcp closed smtp
8081/tcp open blackice-icecap?
No other port was listed as open.

I also double checked using the shieldsup! tool on the grc website and a couple of other web based scanners.
So I was wondering if anyone could set my curious mind at rest.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, my money is on the sure signal but now I just gotta know... ;-)

*I've posted this on the vodafone forum also and will keep this post updated if I get a response. I hope this is posted on the right spot in this site.

Thanks again
Curious George

My guess would be that this router has TR069 configured on this port.

I think sir, you might have have hit the nail on the head...

I just 'telneted' in and dumped the config file... a little sorting and looks like this is vodafone's back door...

C:\>type router.config.txt | grep -i -B 3 -A 3 8081

="" dstMacMask="" dscpCheck="-1" dscpMark="-1" vlanidCheck="-1" vlanidMark="-1" queueId="2" serviceName="SSMTP"/>
<prtTrigger tableSize="1">
<prtTriggerEntry id="1" appName="testing" triggerProtocol="TCP" openProtocol="TCP" triggerStart="8081" triggerEnd="8081" openStart="8081" openEnd="8081" bEnable="1"/>
Interesting that no port forwarding or triggering is visible when logged into the GUI.

Thanks for your help!
