Hi, I need help please   I have tried ringing xtra, and Chorus, but so far no one can help me.

We have a new Sony Internet capable TV but I can't get it to connect to the Internet.  We purchased a wireless dongle and that is fine, but going through the whole set up process it doesn't connect through the router.  I have a Thomson TG585v7. I have tried both waysnofmconnecting, inputting the password, and also pressing the button on thensidemofmthe router for quick connect.

It has been suggested to me that we get a different router, which is  fine if I have to, but don't want to buy something I don't need. And if I did need to buy one, what do I get?

Thanks in advance

ok, silly question time:

Have you purchased the official sony wireless dongle made for the Bravia TVs, or are you trying to use a different branded one?

If the latter, then it definitely won't work since the sony Tvs only supoort official sony wireless dongles.

ETA: also, if you actualy want to use any of the streaming video services or access your media server etc, then wifi will be pretty poor quality.  If you really can't have a direct ethernet connection to the modem, then could you at least use a powerline type product to get a faster more reliable connection?

this sort of thing:

Exactly what model is your Sony TV?
Is the wireless adapter your purchased the Sony UWABR100 or something else?

Moved to correct forum.

Telecom won't help you as this is not their equipment. Chorus has nothing to do with whatever is inside your house.

So it's up to yourself and maybe Sony. But as asked by others, is this an official Sony adapter?

Thomson routers and 'smart TV's are a common issue by all accounts. But typically, its when the user is still running the 'free' router they were given by their ISP.
My pick = new router.

Oh yeah, if the OP is getting right the way through the process, it indicates to me, that yes, they have purchased a Sony dongle. Otherwise, the TV wouldn't allow them to begin the process.

Other thing which might sound silly is to check that you are inputting the wifi password as case sensitive.

AFAIK, the default password on the Thomson router is allways allcaps for the letters (of course, hopefully you changed this), but the default text entry function on Sony TVs is lowercase, you wil need to switch menus to get to capital inputs.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes we did purchase the dongle with the Sony TV. From what I am reading it may be necessary to get a new modem.  Any recommendations?

ThanksThanks formal for all the help. We are now connected. It was the input of our password. Thank you, needed upper case. I had tried to bypass this by usingmthe button on the modem, but obviously once you have input it incorrectly this doesn't work.

Again thanksnformthe help. Merry Christmas to you all.

woohoo. Internet Cookie for me.

(don't worry, I did the same thing severa ltimes before realising it was due to case sensitivity of passwords)
