Asmodeus: Just went to order 2 for xmas prsents but not shipping until Dec 21st!

When I ordered mine on 5 November, I was also given that date as the shipping date. But it was sent early on 17 November and arrived at the YouShop warehouse on 21 November. I'm hoping YouShop get it to me some time next week.

The kiwibank10 discount still works for Youshop, bringing their shipping cost down to $14.66. That made the total price of the special offers paperwhite (including shipping) $160NZ. To compare, a shop in Wellington is selling it for $255.

Yeah not sure if I can risk it though, I expect demand is even higher now than it was 3 weeks ago.

Saw some on Trademe for $248 but that's more than I want to pay

Kindle touch selling for even more!

stuartjmz:

Available in NZ perhaps?

I boguht a Paperwhite through TradeMe when I saw Amazon's delays. I paid way over the odds for it, but I am very happy with it, and it let me give away my Kindle keyboard.

I sent an email in early October suggesting people buy those through us early, but people didn't believe it...

Last year there were six to eight weeks delays.

Has anyone paid to turn off special offers on a paperwhite? I've decided that I dislike advertising enough to give Amazon some extra cash, but I don't get the unsubscribe option in the menu to manage my devices.

I may have erred by registering the device to my NZ account. I've read a suggestion that people with non-US accounts are not given this option (because they're currently not meant to be available outside the US?).

If I'd had the money in October, I would have done just that, too!

I tried to pay to get the special offers removed, and ran into the same problem you did. I received OUTSTANDING customer support from Amazon - the rep who took my call passed me up the chain to a super helpful guy who asked if I had a US address registered with Amazon. Thanks to NZ Post's youshop, I do. He told me to reassign my Kindle account to that US address. With that done, I was able to select the option to turn off special offers - but he exercised his discretion and did it for me, waiving the charge! After that, I just followed his instructions to reassign my Kindle account to my NZ address.  I was a VERY happy customer

Awesome. I reassigned the address and paid just now. Thanks for the tip.

I paid the $20 more to buy the non special offers version. Have received it yesterday but can't open until Christmas :(

Cheers,
Joseph

A couple of weeks ago I tried several times to turn off Special Offers on my wife's PW and couldn't do it. Emailed Amazon twice and they said no go (yet) if you live outside the US but that it might come as an option later.

Then saw the posts above and looked again at the Amazon website. Under 'Manage Your Kindle' saw an option to change country of residence. I'm not sure if this a recent addition to their site or maybe I just didn't see it earlier. Anyway, changed my address to my YouShop address and the 'edit' option next to subscribe to Special Offers popped up. Paid the US$20 fee to unsubscribe and now have a happier wife. Also turned off their Recommended For You option.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
