I am looking for software that I can use to convert speech to text. And audio files to text
I want to be able to speak into my computer microphone and have it appear as text in a word document.
Is this possible? I did try Dragon naturally speaking ver. 9 a couple of years ago but it was quicker to type what I wanted to say. I have a dictaphone which I can speak into and I can plug it into my pc and save the audio files and I would like to be able to convert audio to text also.

I think pretty much regardless of the product, if you can type even reasonably well, it will be faster to type.
You will always have to revisit dictated speech to correct mistakes and homonyms, and add or correct punctuation etc.
AFAIK it's just not there yet.

Dragon is the leader for a long time. Call one or two of the local resellers and arrange to give the latest version a go. Quad core required for best performance iirc.

Personally, every time I try this kind of thing it works well or well enough for my colleagues but is a complete fail with my garbled accent.

You can give built in Windows 7 speech recognition a go but don't expect much from that one:

Something similar exists in Vista.
