hi guys.
does anyone know of a reliable windows 7 64 bit compatible USB to serial adaptor.??
i bought one off trademe and cant get the drivers to work or to get it to talk to my engine management computer. if any one has used one that actually worked then please let me know. either that or im going to have to buy an old IDE laptop hard drive and adaptor and revive my old old old laptop which actually has a serial port....

The unitek ones work perfectly with routers/switche etc, think pbtech has them

The only device I found that i didn't work with was a controller in a Dell SAN 

looks the same as this

Chances are your trademe one has a counterfeit prolific chip in it, which will just code 10 in device manager.

There was a driver I found which mostly worked from cooldrives but it would often bluescreen on disconnection of the USB cable.

I've never seen one that didn't work other than the ones that have the fake chips - Prolific updated their drivers which means they don't work.

If you are still having issues I've found the DSE ones work well.

Unfortunately they are comparatively very expensive

Had heaps of issues with the Prolific chipset devices. Possibly had the knock offs as mentioned above.

Pretty sure the DSE ones use a FTDI chipset.

CP2102 based devices work under Windows 7.

There's a few on trademe just search for CP2102, I don't have any in stock myself at the moment.
