I'm looking for a motor, motor controller and perhaps an associated logic board (otherwise I would arduino it) for an automatic sliding door -- like the kind found in retail shops.

Would any one know where to get one that's not too pricey without resorting to the commercially intended solutions like DORMA?

Thanks!

They are simple chain driven setups with a geared motor. You can get reasonable size geared motors from Surplus Tronics in Auckland. Or use a driveway sliding gate motor which has a rack so you can easily retrofit to a normal door, suggest Easy Gates in Tauranga. Or a sectional garage door opener.

From Easy Gate you can buy just the controller board. They are old designs, as they all are, but does the job and has all the inputs you need. And pin-in-hole components so you will be able ot hand solder any mods you want to do.

You can never have enough Volvos!

A note of caution, don't forget about safety, a door closing on a kid wouldn't end well.  You'll need some way(s) to ensure that if there is any obstruction that it immediately backs off.

For motors, look maybe at windscreen wiper motors, low speed, high torque, available from any car wrecker.
