Hey there

So I have a laptop and it has what I think is a mini-display port. Its the one numbered 3 in this image.

I also have a Samsung monitor which has HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs. The monitor is second hand and came with a min HDMI cable that doesn't fit my mini display port. I'm currently using a VGA cable to connect to it. Having done a bit of research I've discovered that I could be looking at spending 50% of the monitor cost just to buy a mini display port to either HDMI or DVI converter and then an appropriate cable.

So what I'm wondering is if its worth spending around $70 on cables and converters or if there is a cheaper option I've missed. I guess if there is a mini display port to mini HDMI converter then I can use the HDMI cable I already have but so far I haven't been able to find one.

Any suggestions or pointers would be most appreciated to assist with my cable conundrum.

Check out the following links for DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters......

They may be a cheap option for you, including an HDMI cable and freight will come under $50.

It's worth spending the money to get mini DP to HDMI, as there are more consumer range monitors still using HDMI. However DisplayPort monitors (mid-range to professional) are more common over HDMI.

Hunt for one but don't have to spend large on pricey ones.

10 days? That's good for DX.

My latest parcel says shipped on the 7th of Feb. Don't think it has left China yet though. (ordered on about 12th Jan).
