reven: went for a run today, tried to start run keeper, the counter wouldnt start, I figured it must be thinking or something. but no, run keeper needs your phone to be with you. so lame, trying to find a app that just uses the pedometer in the watch (I dont need it to be super accurate, used a fitbit force before).

and google fit, thinks I ran 17km in 27mins :D

Runkeeper has worked for me on sony as that has gps, still not the best however but it is nice running with music/gps and not having to have a phone.

Dingbatt: To continue what I started earlier.
The heart monitor on the GWR is kinda cool but since I'm not the exercise bunny type it is no more than a curiosity. I would have liked it to have the NFC capability like the SW3. The SW3 also has Wi-Fi, GPS and stand alone music storage onboard, but none of these are particularly well utilized by apps at the moment.
I like the magnetic charging puck of the GWR because it is easy to use but its not that portable. The micro USB port in the back of the SW3 makes it awkward to charge but has the bonus of only needing the same charger as my phone. A second charger for the GWR is a distinct possibility.
Since I paid $300 for the SW3 I think I would be quite disappointed by the GWR if I had paid the RRP of $480. However I can't grumble because the WHS deal was outstanding. For what it can do I believe the GWR should retail for around $300-350 not nearly $500.

As for Android Wear, I don't believe it is quite there yet. Just little things like notifications that don't quite fit on a circular screen , the intrusion of Google Now and the inability to have resident widgets (one of android's strengths). In fact I see there are moves from the likes of HTC and ASUS to produce their own watch OS to provide better battery life, but also I believe to make their wearables compatible with iOS as well as android.

Bit of an update on mine.

I love my sony, the band on the LG is bugging the cr** out of me.
I have ordered this here and will see if it makes it any better.
The more i read about it (burn in, no wifi/nfc/gps) the more I like the sony and glad I only spent $130 on the LG.
Sure the sony does not have the heart monitor but I always read high on them which just stresses me out more and increases my heart rate LOL.
The only other thing that bugs me about the sony is I can't find any glass screen protectors for it, they are all that plastic ugly ones.

But I do have to say the LG has a really nice screen, very bright and clear (burn in aside).

It all depends on the person, some really hate the square face of the sony (for me I like it better than the round of the LG R and moto360).
The LG/moto etc do have a lot more watch faces and some of them look really nice on round hardware and really bad on the square hardware.

Each to their own I guess.
I will wait for my new band to turn up and then give the LG another go, until then it will just sit in my draw. If I like it with the new band then great, otherwise I am sure it can find a new home via trademe.

thats because it has a inbuilt gps :) wish it would work just using the pedometer. google fit does in the background, so you track it without doing anything, but nice having a timer for current run to see how long it takes and roughly how far you've run in a session.

i have to buy some bluetooth headphones to try out music playback. would be cool if the zombie running app was available on it.

Well, thinking about it, maybe the heart rate feature would not work with the metal strap?

Just to let you know the Bearing app is a clever use of the watch. Does a great job of showing you north.

I suspect you need to set up the compass in the hiking watch first - but I am very impressed with it.
Not sure of its real life applications - would hate to rely on a smart watch for a 5 day tramp, but still the app worked much better than I ever thought it would.

how are people finding the comfort after a few days of use? i went from a fitbit force to this, and dont really notice its there. it doesnt cut into my wrist, or dig into my hand or anything, I'm not finding it heavy.

I can't believe how light it is - and I even got a positive comment from the wife last night when I showed her. She was surprised at how much like a 'normal watch' it looked. I wore it playing squash this evening and didn't even notice it was there. Very comfortable.

And today after a more typical days usage, i.e. not fiddling every 5mins, I am at 54% after 14 hours of use.

Normal use with screen on for 15 hrs, 59% not too bad.
Tried the navigation, but after calculating it asks to open on watch. Anyone else had success with Nav? It worked a few times, but not sure why it sometimes doesnt.

I had the same issue with Nav. I *think* I might have got it to work one time
Turns out if you start the Nav on the phone first you are good to go with the watch.
But it would be nice if it worked from the watch every time.
Oh well, you don't really need Nav in Dunedin anyway :)

yeah dumb name, I keep forgetting what its called :)

Very, it seems each time they come out with a watch it's designed for something different. The R should have be something like "LG watch Active" the square something like "LG watch Start" and the new one "LG watch Design" but it seems the new one is called "Urbane" so lets hope they keep with naming them now.

When I first saw the WHS sale I was sure they did a mix up between the Square and R because the names are so close (the current price of the square is very close to the price we got the R for, i was sure someone just mixed the 2 up).
