Reading a page in 10-15 seconds is pretty damn fast!

I can't recall what it's called when you read 5-6 words in a line and your brain fills in the rest, it's how I read, which means I can churn through fiction pretty quick if it's not too involved, but makes reading technical information, excruciating for me.

I know what you mean. I learnt this process many years ago, which means I canskim a page pretty quickly. But when you really have to read step by step instructions it can be a chore.

The default button orientation is the opposite to the old Kindle Keyboard, so on Oasis top button is forward and bottom button is back. There is a setting to reverse this and make it the same as the Kindle Keyboard, which I find more comfortable and natural.

@networkn can you let me know how you find the battery life once you get yours. Mine seems to have been draining pretty quickly, but I've been doing a lot of downloading and general playing which I'm sure has contributed to that.

EDIT: Out of interest, what colour cover did you go for?

Yeah once I have it, I'll report back. I have generally found my Kindles very efficient, however, if I leave my Wifi on, it's significantly less. I have airplane mode on about 90% of the time.

I went with black. I'm pretty conservative, plus I was trying to meet a delivery deadline and black was the best change of coming from backorder quickest so my friend could bring it back.

Me too. I did quite like the look of the walnut one, but now that I have it I think black was probably the best choice.

I was going to write a review and then my weekend went to crap!

I got it, and as I expected, I pretty much love it. It's easily the best Kindle I've owned since the original. So small and light! I like the fact I can hold it in either hand and turn pages easily.

It's still a little bit too small. The bigger bit used to grip, probably is a little bit too small for me, so holding it the way I expected too isn't quite ideal. I have an issue with my thumb naturally sitting at the very top of the top (next) button, but unless pressed firmly doesn't go to the next page. I'll get used to that.

The buttons feel great overall and the click very minimal. I don't expect it to bother my wife asleep or awake.

Screen is good, default brightness is sear your eyeballs bright and I reduced it by 25% which is much less painful.

I am using it without the cover because with it, I have the same problem holding it as I did with the Paperwhite and Voyage, though travelling I'd take it with me.

It's not perfect, but it's pretty awesome. Do I think it's worth it? For me, for the physical buttons, and the new form factor, yes, but I still think it's outrageously expensive.

I agree, it is ridiculously expensive - but I don't regret buying it.

I do think that they probably have too many different models now. They should remove the Voyage from the line up and lower the price for the Oasis. This might be the plan already, introduce the Oasis at a high price and when the demand at the high price point falls off discontinue the Voyage and lower the Oasis price.

The Paperwhite 3 is still best value, but damn if the Oasis isn't awesome if you can get past the price.

When ever there is a new Kindle there always seems to be people complaining about the quality of the light.

I was also quite dissatisfied with my gen 1 Paperwhite.

My Oasis is considerably better, but there is still a little fluctuation along the right hand edge where the LEDs are.

@Networkn how do you find the light on yours?

Has anyone else purchased an Oasis they can comment on?
