Repco do a reasonably priced multi-stage charger.  It will start with bulk charge then eventually switch to float.  It has AGM and Gel modes too.

I have for my boat to keep the batteries topped up between trips.

For an unsupervised set up, I'd look at threaded posts and ring terminals on the cables, rather than alligator clips.

Unfortunately out of the budget.  Low to no cost means well under $100 otherwise it's not worth doing.

Depending on what voltage you need, I've got a 12V UPS which is just a block of 18650s and a charging circuit. It depends on how long you want it to power something for, and what current you're drawing. You could have it for, I dunno, $20 or something.

Big thanks to @jeffnz for donating a battery and charger that should do this job perfectly.  I picked it up today and will get it hooked up over the weekend
