I got a Broadband RM3 Blackbean WiFi IR beamer from AliExpress for just NZ$26. It's a poor man's version of Harmony.

It's beaming out the signals I taught it from my Samsung TV remote successfully. eg: TV power on / off and TV volume up / down.

But for some reason it won't beam out the signals I taught it from my Vodafone TV remote eg: Channel up / down.  It seemed to learn a signal. And when I tell it to send that signal the Blackbean light comes on, but nothing happens.

I believe the Vodafone TV remote is IR which is supported (not RF) because I put my hand in front of it and the remote didn't work. Whereas,  I understand a VF remote would still work.

Tried putting the beamer in different places in case it was well positioned for the TV, but not for the VF TV box.

I've also tried both 2.4 and 5Ghz wifi and got the same result both times.

Any idea why TV works, but not VF TV?

Are you sure the Vodafone tv is IR??  Also there's bunch of different versions, ir3 ir5.  I don;t know how many transmitters and what types the RM3 has.

Incidentally I have a couple as well, I found I can actually run mine behind my samsung tv and the tv still get a signal.....so I'm picking placement to the vodafone tv isnt' the issue.

I read a site that said putting your hand in front of a remote is a good test of whether it's IR or RF. IR won't work with the hand in the way, but RF will. So I did that test with the Vodafone TV remote and it didn't work, suggesting it's IR, as mentioned by the previous replier.

I didn't know that there's different types of IR, so thanks for sharing that. That could be the issue.
