I emailed them over the weekend about the USPS issue. They’re sending another replacement using another carrier. Can’t fault them for their customer service.

Did your one leave Miami or was it still just sitting there?

I've got one that apparently left Miami on 17th September with no updates since then. I wonder if it's worth reaching out to them about it.

The last update said it was processed at an outbound depot in Miami so I’m only assuming it’s still sitting there. I’d definitely reach out to them. My understanding is that anything still in transit with USPS that is still in the USA is going to be returned to sender at some point.

I've got two shipments, both from before 1 October, making their way towards the west coast from the east coast. It'll be interesting to see what happens, and annoying if they get all the way to the LA exchange office only to be turned back.

I might be wrong but I believe that’s what’ll happen. I think the suspension took effect immediately and anything still in the USA will be sent back.

My replacement is now installed back in its original location 75m away and communicating much better. The RSSI in the exact same location dropped from -88 on the original unit to -75 for the replacement. The only 'issue' now is that the cumulative rainfall is reading low by about 30% compared to a rain gauge and another weather station that are both reading the same. I recall reading somewhere that the stations do self calibrate some of the measurements over time so will give it a week or 2 to settle down.

I dispatched the original unit back via NZ Post and provided the receipt to Weatherflow support. They refunded the postage amount in $NZ via Paypal within 12 hours, so overall I am very impressed by their support and service.

Nice. How much did it cost to send back?

My replacement is also coming via UPS, due by 18th October.

It was about $39 (750g, Tracked Economy).

Of course posting that the weather station was working well jinxed it, and it has just gone offline and is reporting multiple failed sensors.

Its hosing down here at the moment so I will wait until tomorrow to take it down off its 7m pole and try powering it off and on.

You're kidding?! Surely your replacement can’t be broken too, is it not the distance that might be causing an issue, exaggerated by the heavy rain?

It looks like it is broken. I bought it back to within 5m of the hub and managed to get it reconnected, however the status light is red or purple when it should be green, and its still reporting all sensors failed.

I'm in an email conversation with support now to see if there is anything else to try, but I suspect I will be waiting for another delivery shortly🙁

I noticed that the replacement serial number was was in the 6000's whereas my original was in the 28000s, so am guessing replacements are refurbishments or maybe had an intermittent fault, passed some sort of testing and were put back into replacement stock. Sensor failure seems to be quite a common topic once you start searching for it.

Gutting. Yeah sensor failure does seem to be a bit of an issue. Hopefully it’s just a manufacturing blip from a particular batch rather than an inherent issue.

The wind offset for the Southern Hemisphere, is that locked in by Weatherflow before it is dispatched or do we have to manually apply it?

Currently the wind is coming from the North-West and seeing gusts (I'm comparing to the nearest MetService AWS) but the Tempest is showing it from the South-East.

I did apply a 180 degree offset in the Station settings on the app but I have a feeling I've misunderstood how the offset is applied.

@DjShadow It is worth contacting their support as I've found them very good. But I don't think it is a lost cause as I've verified a number of posts back there is a serial header on the unit so may be possible to actually change this after the fact: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=73&topicid=273384&page_no=12#2766465

Anyway no biggie but I guess Support may be able to tell you what to do. There is also the simple test of blowing air from the north using a fan or something and checking in the app where it is coming from.

Except when they forget to do it your weather station is configured for the southern hemisphere - so no need to apply offsets except if you need to tweak the angle because you didn't quite get the direction right and you don't want the hassle of adjusting when it's mounted in a hard-to-get-to place....

Just take your offset off.....

I've removed the offset now the wind direction is looking better, however I disappeared from the wundermap for a while so guessing I auto failed the QC check for a while.

Also finally recorded my first lightning detection, however it took a few mins for it to come up

The lightning detections do take a while to notify.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.
