My replacement has been in transit for about three weeks, so far. Two weeks of that just moving around the USA. No idea where it is currently (nothing on tracking since it left NZ customs).

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I received the replacement Tempest unit on Saturday, a month after the shipping notification from Miami.

All up and running again.

Are the replacement units normally slow to ship? The last update I have on the track/trace is 19 May saying it has departed Miami.

That seems to be the case. A month seems normal. They seem to use the slowest option possible. The USPS tracking is best until it arrives in NZ and then leaves NZ customs, then updates are via NZPost (although it took a good ten days to get from customs into the NZPost network).

New Tempest showed up today, can see the design is a little different (new switch, spirit level in the pole mount, new engraving) so hopefully this one will last a while

Edit: think the Lux sensor is more sensitive, we do have a streetlight in front of our place and can see it saying the ambient light is 2 Lux, the original unit would be at 0 overnight

Few questions if anyone has tried both..

Is the Davis Vantage Vue as good as the Tempest?

How do they compare in accuracy for rain/precipitation?

Also is there an app for the Davis Vantage Vue and is it as good as the Tempest app?

thanks

The Davis stations are kind of the gold standard, but priced accordingly. You don't need an app for them, just feed them to something else like WU and use apps for that.

Would anyone with a Tempest have a spare pole mount they would be happy to part with? (happy to pay shipping)

We had a spring clean and looks like the mount I had unused at the time got picked up and binned. I've got the tempest currently screwed down to a pergola, but it has been so windy that the flat mount is wobbling and setting off the rain sensor.

It's the actual mount the Tempest clicks onto, using a TV aerial pole which won't flex

You'll find they will just send you out a whole new unit.

The part I'm after they sell for USD $9.95 but then costs a min of USD $35 for shipping to NZ

If I don't have to send back the mount then it is free to a good home. I'll should know in a few days...apparently they are experiencing high demand so there may be some delays...
