shim99: Had my Tempest for 2 years and 2 months and the temperature sensor has failed. I reached out to them and got the standard it’s out of warranty and they will do a replacement for half price.
Not putting any more money into that company. Like others I’ll wait and see what else fails.

Wow, that's a hell of a coincidence. I've had mine for about 3 years, and the temperature sensor has just failed. I reached out to to them as well and got exactly the same response. Similarly I don't like the idea of dumping more money into a company / product that seems to last just the length of warranty.

Same failure - when my temp drops it goes to -45C (But the unit IS returning that temperature - it's like the sensor is dead and the tempest unit is happily reading the bad temp and sending it through.

@shim99 @Talkiet I have a spare Tempest that I'm doing a full tear-down of and so far, I've recorded the part numbers for the lithium charging and lightning detection chips. I'm moving upstairs over the weekend with a view to cataloguing the various sensors on the top board so I'll report back here once I have that information.

Your devices may be repairable?

RS820+, DS223, CoreELEC on Odroid N2+, 3 x Echo Dot & 7 x Google Homes connected to Home Assistant on Beelink SEi12.

That would be brilliant! I considered doing the same and got as far as finding some high res internal photos of the unit but couldn't quite read the part numbers. If it's SMD I'm probably stuffed but anything else I am confident repairing.

Thanks @xbmcnut, looks like my problems are even worse the whole thing died on Friday night. Battery voltage plummeted and now its lost. Hasn't returned despite excellent sunshine.

Thanks @xbmcnut, looks like my problems are even worse the whole thing died on Friday night. Battery voltage plummeted and now its lost. Hasn't returned despite excellent sunshine.

That's the issue with one of the ones I have. I've replaced the Lithium Titanate battery but that made no difference. I now have a lithium charging IC to replace but as the 10-pin chip is only 3mm x 3mm (!!), it's going to be tricky. I'm afraid I might loose a surrounding component or two if that's happens, it's toast. Again, I'll report back when I do that. That issue seems to be a very common problem.

P.S It is possible to charge the internal battery externally with pogo pins on the bottom 4-pin connector.

Fascinating. after the temp issue, Mine died for good as well a few days later. Sounds like an identical failure mode.

I think this second unit has lost sensors as well. Might try a way of powering the first unit with an external power source and see if it'll run that way.
