It's only just come out, of course it'll take a while for the players to adopt it fully.  Then you've got to update all your firmware on your devices to be compatible....it's a bit of work but the end result will be awesome I expect.

I wouldn’t be expecting much for six months to a year. So far it seems to be all over the shop.

Like all open protocols it won’t work as well as proprietary ones do inside their proprietary ecosystems but it will be much more flexible.

The only people I think that will really see any help from matter are those that are directly connecting devices to their amazon/apple/google devices who will hopefully (but yet to be proven that it actually will work) be able to control the things from one of the other ecosystems. And those that find the idea of making an account in another app and logging into it and connecting it to their assistants too hard to bother doing.

Really remains to be seen how the workflow for a person sharing their device on an apple thing to a flatmate who uses google or amazon actually works, if at all vs the current way of sharing it in the device manufacturers app with the other people. Right now the messing around with QR codes or pairing numbers looks like a hell of a lot of hassle but till we see devices, we see houses with 100+ of them being set up, etc its really a who knows situation. For now I am quite happy with things set up in the Tuya app and connecting that to Amazon and Google, but I have never tried or wanted to try adding apple to the mix which appears to be the biggest hassle of all (go figure) - but friends who have idevices just ignore the apple stuff and use the app for the device which I imagine is why apple are being so monopolistic with their Matter support on their stuff.
