I've switched to Athom plugs, which have an open firmware, Kasa became more difficult to control locally. Kasa still work but I think the news TP-Link plugs are more difficult to control locally.

I use Home Assistant to control and automate things at home - smart plugs, multiple heating systems, blinds, etc, I could add lighting but don't need it.

Do you use ESPHome or Tasmota on the plugs?

I like the fact with Tasmota it is easy to adjust on-plug default timings. For example I have a bunch of additional turn off rules in case a plug is turned on manually as some one is up late.

I use ESPHome. All my rules are in Home Assistant. I wouldn't like to deal with distributed rules. I have some additional rules in home assistant to turn plugs off late in the evening if they've been turned on manually. I already have 180 automations in Home Assistant, although around 1/3 of them are disabled as they were to do with making use of tiered power which we don't have any more.

I have a Philips Hue Smart Plug which does zigbee. I had no trouble attaching it to Home Assistant via zigbee2mqtt. I got it from Mitre 10:

It works well, but does run a little warm with the 30 watt load it is currently switching (my Mellanox IS5022 Infiniband switch), so I would wonder about using it for a full 10 amp load. It is just a switched socket - no power monitoring. And they are fairly expensive.

I have a couple of the Hue plugs that I’m using instead of more Arlec plugs but I miss the power monitoring and smaller size of the latter. They have been very reliable so far - I’m also using them through Home Assistant.

@timmmay do you worry at all about the Athom plugs not having an SDoC?

I didn't until you mentioned it... I don't control high current devices with them, just small things.
