I had the problem described with the case. Called Amazon yesterday. Got a full refund on the cover and shipping and $25 USD credit to cover the extra cost of ordering a lighted case as a replacement. :-)

Hopefully the new case won't take too long to arrive

Do you have to call, or is there any online form for this?

I emailed kindle-response@amazon.com and was asked to call them to expedite the fault. Called the 206 area code number and it took about 3 minutes to get it all sorted. They were going to send a shipping label to send the old case back but decided they wouldn't bother and I could keep the faulty case.

I wonder if you can just do something to "fix" it. The case is great as it is, really

Agreed, i experienced random crashes soon after i got the kindle but never assumed it could be case related. I don't see them very often now and i'm on the beta firmware. Not sure if it's worth bothering for me. I don't use the kindle every day, more like every second or third and haven't had a crash in months.

I think I'll try unpick the stitching holding the assembly and see if I can separate them into 2 pieces to eliminate the short that causes the issue. It is a great case apart from the occasional reset etc

Anyone know if this "design fault" for want of a better term applies also to the Kindle DX covers from Amazon which have similar clips?

After being out of stock since before Christmas, the International Version is now finally available again, so I ordered one today via the Affilliate Link.  There is a new cover available at a very reasonable price which looks just perfect given that my wife already has an Energizer clip-on LED lamp:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004A7ZEI2/ref=oss_product

Once her Kindle arrives, she will be able to access all the titles that are no longer available on MobiPocket.  It's a shame to see the eBook selection becoming fragmented a la BluRay/HD-DVD, but Kindle seems to be taking over the market for eInk readers, leaving the iPad for those who prefer an LCD screen.

Thanks... That cover looks nice - and cheaper than the Amazon one. Also probably doesn't have the freeze problems.

Yeah, there are no exposed metal parts so far as I can tell.  If it's like the CyBook cover we have now, the magnets will be sewn inside the leather, so there is no way they can touch anything.

Nice cover! Too bad they won't deliver to any address in NZ I have on file. And don't want to pay BuyUSA $30 to get it here.
