Hi Everyone,

First let me give you a bit of insight on my career and studies. So i completed my diploma in advanced computer science level 5-7 in 2015. After that i had been on full time job search, now this is where the struggle started I used to apply for entry level roles and roles which seemed realistic and unrealistic as well. I got in to slingshot for a interview so i had 3 rounds here and also my visa was left for around 6 months when i applied for the job. So all the interviews and everything took place and i was told that they find me a good candidate and they would be more than happy to hire me but i need to have at-least 6 months left on my visa :(

So i tried to convince them by saying when i got in the interview i had more than 6 months since i was new to applying jobs and everything i thought that this process might be slow as they are gonna hire me as full time so it took more than 1 month from my first interview that  was having email conversations with slingshot about my application now after all of that i could not get in as my visa was not for 6 months. I do not understand if this was my mistake or slingshot or just my fate was not with me.

So after my job search visa expired i have now been studying For Bachelors in Computing System from Unitec Mt Albert. Now the study that i am currently doing and my previous studies have given me sound knowledge about basic computing, networking, hardware , software, SQL database, Python programming, Project Planning.

Right now i am in need of a job which will help me gain some experience within the computing environment, I will be more than happy to work for free as a Intern as my main concern is to get that on job experience so that i dont have to go through the same situation when i applied for jobs and simply  got rejected by saying I dont have enough experience or any at all.

Question-How will i have experience on the first place if no one allows me to start?

Anyone who is reading this post please help me out if you are working at a place like Slingshot,Chorus,Flip,2 Degrees,Vodafone,Spark,IInet,Concentri and any companies that are dealing with routers and computer. So that i can join your firm and start to get some experience in my field.

I do have a lot of customer service experience and i am confident person.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

JUST NEED TO GET TO START WORKING AND GAINING SOME EXPERIENCE.

Completed the same degree you're going for now (grad last year), how far in are you?

Unfortunately with the job search it just is a bit of luck and a lot of hard work. A lot of companies don't fully explain what they want in their job advert, so even if you match what they do advertise you might be lacking something they failed to mention, or something they didn't realise until after. Add in that there's also dozens or hundreds of others applying for the same position as you, and if one of those applicants has more experience or better qualifications the employer will probably go for them.

Have you checked out Concentrix? I'm sure you're aware they have a centre on campus and employ a lot of students, not just from the computing department. I had a few friends that worked for them and enjoyed it, it's a great career path if you get into an IT support role there. Another thing you could try is Student Job Search, they have jobs for students and graduates so you may find something there, and since they'd be expecting someone fresh to the industry you would probably have a fairer chance.

Good luck with the degree and job search. :-)
