That's different, you'd need to meet someone to understand their values. Like many places, Xero seems to want someone who ticks all the exact boxes they want - skills, experience, and salary. I've seen many job descriptions that if anyone filled them they'd be an incredibly expensive superman - including a job that was released where I work. Unfortunately those things are often written by committee.

It can take months for a new developer to come up to speed, and a visa application's a lot of hassle. That will be extremely limiting.

I can't say much more from the inside except the fact that you're not 100% correct, sorry..

It's more of a general commentary on the industry seeming to want exactly what they want.

They're happy to reject applicants and wait for that person who fits their core values perfectly.

Core values? Or salary expectations? Or are they one and the same?

Core values https://www.xero.com/nz/about/careers/  under the 'value what you do' heading

I'm cynical and sceptical. I'd summarise that page as "Work hard at the job we give you and be clever and you'll get more money". Having worked for a company whose framed value statements included "Empowering employees" and "Letting people choose their rewards" (all of which was complete bulls hit) I'd want to see how your "We encourage a great work-life balance, celebrate diversity and do what we can to support you." translates. That vague statement is the only mention of caring for the staff member or their family and helping deal with the various stresses that are involved in real peoples' lives.

I see nothing there about a "career". There's no mention of staff development, for example. Given the half-life of IT skills and knowledge, I'd expect to see a commitment to training if we were talking about a "career".
