I have an Apple TV that is connected to my TV via an HDMI cable. When I play a movie from my computer (mbp) the video plays fine. However every 5-10 seconds, the audio drops out for about 2-5 seconds.

I have tried different combinations of TV settings and Apple TV settings and have not resolved this issue. I have tried the Apple TV on another TV with the same HDMI cable, same issue. I have tried the Apple TV on another TV with a known good HDMI cable, same issue. I have streamed YouTube videos, same issue.

Not sure what else to try, thinking it's possibly a dud Apple TV. Or the fact that this is all running across a wireless network? But wouldn't expect a wireless network to impact the performance like this.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

What type of Apple TV?

What speed is your network?

SD or HD movie?

Have you tried connecting via ethernet cable rather than WiFi?

Have you updated the firmware / plugged into iTunes and completed a full restore?

Is this the same as performing a Software Update on the Apple TV? If not I'll give it a go.

What spec is your computer you are streaming from? Are you using the latest iTunes? Is your network wireless N or G?

I have iTunes 10.6.3, when I check for updates, it says it's the current version.
MBP specs, Processor 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 and Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
Wireless network supports both N and G.

Your specs should be more than up to it, I have an old compaq wireless g laptop connected to my ATV via router which is wireless N and no lag unless another device starts to hog the wireless.
Try any of these remedies from apple- http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215 or check the settings on your router, that may be causing a clog in the system.

I ended up taking it back to JB HI-FI and got a replacement Apple TV. Set it up and tested it, no issues with the audio.
