I just came back from the iPhone launch in Christchurch (Telecom) and I must say I was impressed with the outcome, everyone was wrapped! The "VIP" area was pretty awesome where people could chillax while they waited for their number to be called out.

Just curious, did anybody get faster than 3-4 weeks estimate on shipping when ordering direct from apple?

Got the notification 3AM. Woke up 5AM. Saw email, thought to myself HOLY CRAP.

Just ordered 64GB Black. I knew it was gonna be 3-4 week ETA. Most likely in the 3 week range.

Woohoo. Heading to the gym now

This is ridiculous! I was always told Apple have there own separate stock for each country, why is it taking 3-4 weeks just to get from China which is just up the road!

I called Apple yesterday and the person I spoke to only hoped that we'd have our own stock allocated. So after spending the last week in a perpetual 'kid before xmas' state, I feel a bit deflated to have to wait 3-4 weeks. But as others have pointed out, you can cancel the order if you manage to secure one by other means.

I wouldn't be surprised that our initial allotment was only available to VF/XT

Looks like the official E-Mail went out by Apple about 3am (3:10am) this morning, live on the site not too long after. Now the long wait 'til it gets here... (Hoping still might be able to get it retail and cancel the shipping before then!) :)

Ships:  3 - 4 Weeks
Delivers  29/10/2012 - 02/11/2012 via Standard Shipping

I ordered mine at 1.30am - I had expected it to be live from 12.01 so I was little annoyed LOL
BUT I ordered then and got the same 3-4 week delivery approximation.

I also noticed Apple took the money from my credit card straight away, usually they don't until they prepare it for shipping. Was that the same for everyone else?

Yes Apple took the money straight away from my VISA, but it only shows as a VISA hold...
