Just ordered a white 32GB version. One is hoping this is not a popular model so Apple will have plenty of stock. :p

apple New Zealand site seems to have a slight discrepancy in there tech spec section on the iphone 5 purchase page. Thought it might be worth a mention.

Scroll down to the technical specifications area

Shouldn't the 3g talk time say 8 hours not 7?

littleheaven: I'd say the 3-4 week delivery estimate will be a conservative one, and the phone will very likely arrive before that. They need to have a bit of a buffer built in, because if the phones are late their call centre will be flooded with complaints, and obviously they want to avoid that. So I wouldn't be at all surprised to see shipping in 2-3 weeks.

I downloaded Changes Meter for my Mac and Update Scanner add-on for Firefox, and added the iPhone sales page to both of them. Since I'd never tried them before, I thought I'd better have a back-up in case one didn't work.

I was just climbing into bed around 1.00am when Update Scanner went off. I'd set it to play a custom ringtone my husband made of Paul Oakenfold's "Ready Steady Go" since the sentiment seemed appropriate and I was fairly sure it'd wake me up. So of course I rushed to the Mac, checked the page, and all they'd done was add the lightning adapter to the bottom of the page. I browsed away for a few minutes, then Changes Meter's quiet little "ping" alerted me to another change, and sure enough, around 1.10am, the iPhone was for sale. I was in such a flap I had to try 3 times to complete the order, LOL. I'm getting a white 64GB. And I got the 3-4 weeks delivery estimate, so I don't think there was ever a shorter one than that.

Now onto the important business of choosing the perfect case. Otterbox seem to be extremely robust but rather bulky. Anyone have case recommendations? My main concern is scratch protection, with drop protection a close second (although to an extent you can never fully protect from that).

64GB buddies! I'm getting the black one, though.

For my case I'm looking for nice aesthetics more than anything. I really like the look of the SwitchEasy Nude, but the $15 USD flat rate international shipping is really turning me off. I might see if there are any in-store that are nice.

Crap I forgot about the cases. Any recommendations of where I can get those from? Since normal places like Harvey Norman etc will probably not have those in yet...

There was a small selection at Yoobee Wellington when I was in there yesterday. They told me they'd be getting more in the weekend. Also, I think that JB Hi-Fi are getting some in soon, but I'm not sure when.

That's what I went for too. I never have had white. But thought his one looked classy LOL
I almost went 64Gb but now with Spotify and music streaming services the need isn't as great for GBs and GBs of music.

Oh cool thanks for that. I guess with 3ish weeks we've got time to find them!

OwenMeasures: Apple are telling me the orders went live at 12:01

I can absolutely confirm they did not, since I was refreshing the site every 5 minutes from about 11.55pm. The option to buy came up sometime between 1.03am and 1.10am. My order confirmation email is timestamped 1.15am.

Potentially they miscalculated the time difference?

I ordered my Black 32GB at 7am this morning. Glad to see that they were all 3-4 weeks and that I didn't miss out on an earlier batch (that sounds selfish, haha!).

Here's hoping the 3-4 weeks really is conservative/worst case scenario.

OwenMeasures: I cant get over this! people in the UK and US had theres a week after ordering! we had to wait 2 weeks on top of that to order, and now 3-4 weeks on top of that! i cant wait until Apple opens, they are going to get an ear full, i will see what i can find out and report back.

The US could only buy them on account/contract immediately.

you may need to take a chill pill!

It's interesting how many people have no problem spending $1100 on a phone yet baulk at paying $15 shipping for a case?
And it could be worse - shipping could cost more than the product.

Not really. I don't think those same people would have issue with spending $15 freight on a $1100 phone. It's about value for money, not total cost per se I'd suggest.

Everyone,

I have just been speaking to a senior adviser at Apple, she is going to go away and speak to the warehouse to see what the stock issues are with NZ, and as to why we have ALL been quoted 3-4 weeks when infact if we order within at least a hour we should receive next week.

The senior adviser confirmed orders went live at 1:30am which would make more sense, clearly the guy i spoke to prior had no idea what he was talking about!!!

went and picked up my pre ordered iphone 5 from telecom this morning, its very very cool, nice to hold.

Only bummer is that the porting of my number from vodafone is not scheduled to go through until 5pm next tuesday.  Call the phone number on the letter to try and organise bring it forward, but was told not often done, but they would pass onto the right team to request.

Might have to hack my vodafone micro sim to size until then!
